    Wlnsvey has a passion for advocacy for social justice and equitable outcomes. Wlnsvey is the daughter of immigrants. She grew up in rural Oregon and has been proud to make Washington County her home since 2013. She has extensive community organizing experience, has worked in politics and on Healthcare, Housing, and Labor policy, and has served on nonprofit boards. In her free time she enjoys hiking, finding new food spots, drinking boba, and hanging out with her dog and cats!

    Operations Manager

    Jessica has a passion for non-profit management work, and has provided operations support and management for several Oregon non-profit groups.  She also has several years experience in Government Relations for Human Services, Health Care and Housing non-profits. She is committed to creating policies and procedures that best serve Oregon and create healthy, thriving communities and schools. In her free time Jessica can be found spending time with friends and family playing games, enjoying community and exploring the beautiful outdoors.

    Asia is passionate about health equity, community organizing, and advocating with historically marginalized communities. With being born and raised in Southwest Portland and attending a PWI for college, she grew up in majority white dominant spaces while internally navigating her Asian American identity and she hopes to support others in finding their sense of belonging and strength. With her previous experience in nonprofits, she loves that in her role at OSBHA, she has the opportunity to work with youth in voicing their health needs and learn from them what their priorities are in bettering their wellness. During her free time, Asia loves cooking, visiting her local farmers market, and jamming out to K-pop.

  • Maureen Hinman (she/her)

    Maureen Hinman, Executive Director of the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance, has been an advocate for youth supports through school health services for 15 years. Partnering with school health providers, districts, and community groups, she has strengthened school health systems with youth as key partners. Her work has led to doubling the number of school-based health centers, increasing school mental health funding, State trauma informed schools pilots, and a statewide community schools initiative.

  • Hannah Smith (she/her)

    Hannah is passionate about community organizing to amplify marginalized voices. She is originally from Ohio, where she started her career in local public health, before moving to Oregon where she found her calling for school health services. Hannah has experience working with multidisciplinary teams to implement health education programming in communities and schools. She strongly believes in youth-adult partnerships to shape policies and systems that support vulnerable populations. Hannah loves building relationships and learning from others. In her free time, she enjoys reading novels, hanging out with her cats, and being in nature.

    Patti is passionate about fostering community connections and empowering youth involvement. She moved to Oregon with her family at age twelve, an experience that shaped her career and gave her a bilingual, bicultural, and equity-centered perspective. With over 15 years of experience in community building, youth engagement, and program development, Patti is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the communities she serves. In her free time, she is an outdoor enthusiast, plant collector, and cat lover, with a deep curiosity about people and cultures.

  • Kelly E. Coates, PhD, MPH (she/her)

    Chair

    Read Bio

    Given her passion for systems-level change as a means for mitigating how health barriers to learning affect students’ ability to attend / participate in school, Kelly joined the OSBHA Board in July 2022. She works at CareOregon as an Evaluation Analyst, and is also Affiliate Faculty with the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. In addition, she serves on Oregon’s School Medicaid Advisory Committee to shape recommendations for work surrounding statewide school Medicaid efforts. Kelly also serves on AcademyHealth’s Child Health Services Research Interest Group Advisory Committee, and leads a community of practice to provide a learning and networking space for researchers from around the country. Most of her 20+ year career has been spent in nonprofits, both as staff and as a Board member. She was born and raised in Portland, and when not spending time with her three rescue pups, she revels in all the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

    Keevin is a full scope family physician who daily sees the impact of education on physical and emotional well being. He wants to make prevention of chronic illness part of a life well lived. The more our places of learning can also be places of wellness the better we will all be. He’s excited to be part of the school-based health center movement and to be around passionate and caring people who all want the best for our young learners.

    Chloe has been with OSBHA since 2021 in various capacities. She is honored to serve as the Board Secretary. Chloe is passionate about issues facing young people and health equity. She resides in rural Southern Oregon and offers a rural perspective to the work she does. She works with a variety of other community organizations and has multiple years of experience. Chloe is currently pursuing a Communications and Political Science degree and hopes to continue working in legislative advocacy and grassroots organizing.

  • Grace Choi (she/her)

    Grace is dedicated to expanding access to equitable student health services and education, particularly for underserved communities. Her previous work with OSBHA as a Student Health Advocate and Youth Corps Peer Advocate Intern deepened this commitment, especially after powerful experiences advocating alongside youth at the Oregon State Capitol. At school, she contributes her voice on the CTE Medical Science Advisory Council and as Student Body President, and in her community, she serves on the City of Beaverton’s Mayor Youth Advisory Board. Outside of her advocacy, Grace finds joy in exploring the trails and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and getting lost in a heart-wrenching memoir.

  • Cathy Gidley (she/her/hers)

    Cathy was drawn to sales/marketing after completing her studies at Portland State University.  Her career started with Weyerhauser where she was fortunate to see the US through many trade shows and conventions.  A chance encounter with a nonprofit executive provided a new endeavor into fundraising and she never looked back!  Thirty-four years later, after working for, and leading, many local nonprofits, she retired in 2020.  In her spare time, she enjoys participating with the One More Time Again Marching Band and is still passionate about raising funds for favorite nonprofit organizations. 

  • Katie Gragg (she/her/hers)

    Katie joined the Board in December 2023, after serving as a Student Health Advocate with OSBHA in 2022. She is most interested in promoting health equity and expanding access to healthcare. She views working with OSBHA as an important part of accomplishing this goal, and contributing to forward change in health accessibility and advocacy. In her spare time, Katie enjoys exploring local restaurants and walking with her dog.  

  • Aidé Juárez Valerio (she/her)

    Aidé is deeply passionate about education and committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Aidé believes that supporting young people effectively requires a collective effort. She supports the idea that every adult plays a crucial role in the well-being and success of our children, and by centering students in our efforts, we can build a stronger, brighter, and safer future. 

    Aidé is an advocate for Community Schools, she believes that schools are more than academic spaces; they are places where communities unite, support one another, learn together, and access vital resources to thrive. Having grown up in a small town with limited opportunities, she knows firsthand the challenges that students in such areas face. These experiences drive her belief that all schools, not just those in urban areas, deserve enriching programs that spark imagination, creativity, curiosity, and growth. When schools offer opportunities for students, families, and the broader community, they become hubs of possibility and transformation. 

    Outside of work, Aidé enjoys reading, hiking, mountain biking, and spending time with her friends.

  • Nicole L. Mayer, MPH (she/they)

    Nicole is a Project Manager, Multnomah County Community and Adolescent Health team with a passion for spreading accurate health and life information to youth to ensure they have a full toolbox of knowledge going into adulthood. She learned about public/community health accidently while working at YMCA in La Crosse Wisconsin during an ice breaker activity with a co-worker and her path has been clear ever since. When not working or being a board member she is enjoying all the amazing things the PNW has to offer with her husband, reads and lounges with her dogs, gardens, nerds out on Doctor Who (primarily new Who), listens to podcasts for hours, and brought into the world a whole new human being in December of 2024. 

  • Kristen Nicolescu (she/her/hers)

    Born in Oregon and raised in the Northwest, Kristen holds a Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Northeastern University in Boston. For nearly a decade, Kristen has been dedicated to advancing school-based health services in the Columbia Gorge, having served as Director of SBHCs at One Community Health for the last 3 years. She is passionate about women’s health care, reproductive rights, and working to identify ways to decrease health care inequities, especially for youth.

    In her spare time, she enjoys mountain biking, running and backpacking, snowboarding, gardening, and any fun she can have with her dog outside.

  • Peyton Nguyen (she/her/hers)

    Peyton joined the board of the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance (OSBHA) in 2022 to advance their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in healthcare. As a low-income, first-generation immigrant from Vietnam, Peyton's personal experiences drive their passion for creating equitable access to healthcare and education for underserved communities. With an MBA, MHA, and a BA in Business Administration and Public Health, Peyton has held roles at the CDC Foundation and Public Health Institute, focusing on public health, DEI, and community outreach. In their role at OSBHA, Peyton is dedicated to using their skills and experience to support initiatives that promote health and well-being across communities.

  • Bill Thomas (he/him)

    Read Bio

    Bill joined the Board in 2009 when he was Director of the Washington County Commission on Children and Families. In that role, he was passionate about creating access to affordable primary and mental health care for children and youth. Before he retired in 2017, Bill was the primary instigator for developing and ensuring stable funding for five new School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) that covered every school district in Washington County. As a result of this work, all six Washington County SBHCs are still operating today.

  • Karla Villines

    Read Bio

    Karla, originally from Panama, is passionate about positively impacting others’ lives. She authored the Spanish-language book Crecer: pasos para una vida excepcional, exploring personal growth. After moving to the U.S. with her husband and son, she began working at La Clinica in 2010. Her diverse background includes roles as an international speaker and Certified Medical Interpreter. She currently serves on the board of Southern Oregon Goodwill, advocating for community development. Karla holds a Bachelor's in System Administration and is finishing her Law degree, blending technical skills with legal insight. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music, dancing, and reading.

    Sophie is passionate about supporting medically disadvantaged and stigmatized communities, with a special focus on youth and pediatric care. Having lived in Sichuan, Chicago, and now Portland, she actively identifies health challenges within her community and spreads awareness for solutions. A natural performer, Sophie began dancing at the age of 3 and continues to embrace her love for music and dance. She looks forward to building new connections and learning from others as she continues her advocate journey!

  • Kasi Woidyla (she/her)

    Kasi Woidyla is an experienced communications strategist and public affairs leader with more than 15 years of experience shaping messaging, advocacy, and brand strategy across public, nonprofit, and corporate sectors.

    She has led high-impact communications and government relations initiatives advancing health equity, education, housing, and infrastructure, and is known for building teams, crafting compelling narratives, and navigating complex policy environments with clarity and purpose.

    Previously, Kasi directed communications, advocacy, and government policy for Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, and served as Marketing and Development Director for the Oregon International Air Show, where she oversaw public relations for the largest civilian air show on the West Coast.

    A committed community advocate, Kasi has served on multiple boards and advisory councils, ensuring that underrepresented voices are included in the conversations that shape Oregon’s future.

    OSBHA HPV PEER Educator

    Amira is very community oriented, especially when it comes to healthcare and spreading awareness. She has always shown interest in the healthcare field and hopes to find a lifelong career in that field. Amira is a big fan of writing and poetry, and is always keeping an eye out for life changing books. Since going back to her home, Somalia, she has been inspired to know all that there is about her culture and the people of Somalia. Hoping to one day be able to give back to her community. She participates in Student Organizations and leads events that host 80-300 students. Everyone that knows Amira knows that her mother is her biggest supporter, her mother’s inspiration is what keeps Amira going.

    Anna is passionate about serving populations with unmet health needs, including childhood cancer and seniors. She is interested in the intersection of health and education, as she is involved with the Oregon Department of Education and is excited to join the OSBHA team. Anna is an avid Peanuts fan and is fascinated by all things science from cancer to prions to the chemistry of cheesemaking. In her free time, Anna enjoys sightreading on the piano and playing card games with her family.

    Matilda is a senior at McDaniel High School. She is dedicated to improving community health and empowering young people to take charge of their well-being. She’s especially interested in how education and advocacy can close gaps in healthcare access and awareness. As an HPV Peer Educator Intern, Matilda looks forward to engaging her peers in meaningful conversations about prevention and public health. Outside of OSBHA, she volunteers at Legacy Hospital, and is involved in her school's Red Cross, SHAC, and debate team. She’s also a film lover, an avid reader, and enjoys playing guitar and spending time with friends in her free time.

    Renata is a student in the literature department at Reed College. They are involved in peer to peer crisis work and are very passionate about difficult conversations that allow youth to safely interact with the world around them. Renata lives to write and writes to live. They write for small literary magazines and for their school newspaper. In their free time, Renata stays up through the egregious hours of the night to study and watch bad TV with their favorite people.

    Cindy is a junior at a Portland high school, hoping to major in International Relations in college. Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Cindy has noticed the many disparities in our healthcare system- for that reason, she is super excited to start working with OSBHA to create ripples of change, and truly serve the underrepresented populations in our community. She hopes to accomplish this by educating others on how their voice matters in the legislative process, and fostering an environment where everyone feels empowered to advocate for themselves in the world of healthcare. In Cindy’s free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her friends and family.

    Claire is a sophomore at a Portland high school, focusing on Health Sciences. Since finding OSBHA and completing their student health advocate program, she has been passionate about advocating for her peers in a meaningful way through legislation and education. Having struggled with the healthcare system herself, an issue far too many students are familiar with, she hopes to see an Oregon where students are able to first and foremost focus on their education, not accessing healthcare. In her free time, Claire enjoys skiing, blacksmithing, reading, and most things involving working with her hands.

  • David Castro-Andrade (he/him)

    David is a freshman at Portland State University, currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Growing up in the bustling urban environment of New York City, David witnessed the myriad disparities in health resources for low-income youth in the US. However, years of helping his family navigate the jargon of the resources around them and dispelling any myths have inspired David to become a health advocate who ensures everyone receives the help they need, whether through engineering or advocacy. As an engineer focused on the public good, David dedicates his time to health initiatives.

    In his free time, David enjoys playing volleyball, baking cookies, thrifting, karaoke, and has once memorized over 150 digits of pi. Fun fact: through thrifting, he found a vintage Vivienne Westwood necklace!

  • Itati Urbano-Garcia (she/her)

    Itati Urbano-Garcia is a current 4th-year student at Portland State University, majoring in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health and a minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Itati is passionate about advocating for healthcare accessibility, particularly for individuals who face language barriers. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, she knows firsthand how challenging it can be to understand and navigate the healthcare system and access the care you need. She aims to pursue a career in law, utilizing her language skills and experiences to advocate for Spanish-speaking communities and ensure they receive fair representation. 

    Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading. I'm currently reading "La Frontera Entre Nosotros" by Ruby Ruiz. I also enjoy pottery and spending time with family and friends!

  • Jordynn Michael (she/her)

    Jordynn Michael (she/her) is an honors graduate of the University of Portland, where she earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Passionate about women’s health, health equity, and community care, Jordynn is excited to return to the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance as a Peer Advocate Intern after first serving as a student health advocate in high school. Her goal is to become a healthcare practitioner who advocates for representation and trust in healthcare, especially for underserved communities.

    Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Jordynn enjoys exploring local coffee shops, visiting art exhibitions and museums, and spending time with her friends and family. She is inspired by the words of Dr. Jocelyn Elders: “Health is more than absence of disease; it is about economics, education, environment, empowerment, and community.” Jordynn strives to embody that in her journey toward becoming a compassionate and inclusive physician.

    Maria Vazquez is a senior pre-medical student at Portland State University double majoring in Biology and General Science with a minor in Chicanx/Latinx Studies. She is passionate about pursuing a career that integrates medicine, research, and community engagement to advance healthcare accessibility for underrepresented populations. Growing up in Oregon, Maria witnessed firsthand the challenges Latinx families face when navigating the healthcare system, inspiring her commitment to advocating for culturally and linguistically inclusive care. She aspires to pursue an M.D./Ph.D. at Oregon Health & Science University, where she hopes to continue bridging the gap between medical research and community health.

    Beyond academics, Maria enjoys thrifting, spending time with her mini Australian Shepherd, taking long walks, and recently discovered a love for weightlifting. She strives to live by the values of compassion, resilience, and service that guide both her personal and professional journey.

    Anandi has a passion for advocating for teen's mental health and health equity. Living in Portland for the majority of her life, what drives her is seeing how the wellbeing of marginalized youth is majorly overlooked and disregarded, which stops many from succeeding because they aren't getting the guidance or help they deserve. Anandi enjoys giving back to the community, as she previously interned with Lents Youth Initiative, working with other teens on projects to help their neighborhood. In her free time she loves to bake, watch k-dramas, and go thrifting.

    Anh likes playing the guitar and researching about health. She likes everything about health and really cares about medical care. Anh has a CPR certificate and is involved at a clinic at her school for sports games after school. She usually plays the guitar and ukulele in her free time. Her Sports Medicine teacher is the person who inspires her the most.

    Claire is a passionate advocate for her community and their welfare. After witnessing firsthand the struggles of countless individuals around her and how support networks designed to assist them could be difficult to find and even harder to access, she took it upon herself to try and help those around her navigate the system. Now at OSBHA she is hoping to help change the systems that lead to such issues in the first place. When not helping her community, she is often writing poetry, blacksmithing, or more often reading a book with a warm cup of coffee.

    D is always ready to advocate. Whether it be for healthcare access, comprehensive health curriculum, or various other causes, D is committed to engaging in meaningful civic action. His passion for outreach has lead him to become a president of his school's GSA. On a weekend, you might find D rollerblading on one of Central Oregon's scenic trails, reading up on the Latin language in his local library, or competing at a Speech and Debate tournament!

    Ethan hopes to promote access to healthcare, especially among underserved communities such as youths. SHA has allowed him to further this goal alongside many like minded peers. Outside of SHA, Ethan volunteers for YouthLine to directly aid youths in need of mental health support. He is passionate about math, science, and the arts in all aspects of his life. In his free time, he can be caught reading, going on a run, or playing an instrument.

    Francesca is a student at Portland State University, majoring in Biology with a pre-med track. She plans to pursue medical school after graduation and is excited to be part of the OSBHA team. Francesca's passion is health equity, helping and treating others, advocating health, and supporting to obtain access to healthcare. Francesca strives to positively impact others and to share her experience and knowledge as she pursues a path as a family medicine physician. Outside of OSBHA, she loves spending time with her friends, baking, listening to music, theater, arts and crafts, and loves musicals.

    Inius is a student who is passionate in nursing, caretaking, and healthcare. Being certified in CPR and AED use at 15. He often enjoys reflecting dark and often overlooked issues through his art and writing, being very expressive with his work overall. He has an open mind that has helped him through life, especially when it comes to understanding others and where they’ve come from.

    Jeesoo is passionate about science communication, and hopes to support the dialogue between underserved communities and the healthcare system through being a SHA! She is particularly interested in backing youth autonomy in healthcare and loves OSBHA's unique work to serve young people in Oregon. In her free time, Jeesoo likes to embroider, cook, and write.

    Leanna is a Portland high school student who joined the School-Based Health Alliance (SHA) to advocate for mental health care and ensure that all students have access to essential healthcare. She is passionate about promoting wellness and believes in the importance of supporting the health needs of her peers. Leanna is driven by her desire to make a positive impact in her school community and help create a space where students feel cared for and supported. In her free time, she enjoys weight training, cooking, and listening to music.

    From a young age, Mila dreamed of working in the medical field and making a difference by helping others. Her passion for healthcare inspired her to seek out opportunities to build her skills and knowledge. She is dedicated to helping people feel better about themselves, which drives her passion to be in the medical field. In her free time, you can catch Mila playing the Sims, studying, and spending time with friends and family. She prioritizes her studies so that she will be able to get to where she wants to be, helping the people who need it, even if it's just putting a smile on their faces (as she aspires to become a future orthodontist).

    As a Student Health Advocate, Nidhi aims to advocate for accessible healthcare and be a voice for her community. With aspirations to work in Pediatrics after high school, Nidhi enjoys working with children by volunteering through diverse organizations. In addition to SHA, Nidhi is a teen council member with Planned Parenthood and a certified nurse assistant. In her free time, Nidhi loves exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends, and going on long drives.

    Ria is an introvert, she likes crocheting, knitting, and painting. She joins SHA because she wants to develop her English. Her family moved to the U.S. in 2023 and she started to learn and adapt new culture from that. She is interested in the medical field, such as being a psychiatrist and that is also another reason she joins the SHA program. She hopes that she will have a great time volunteering at SHA.
